Need to impress a lady. Best places to go on a date?

I want to do go somewhere she won't have been and I'm trying to impress! Anything considered.

Vertigo 42 in the city is a stunning place to grab a glass of wine at sunset.

And Dayles Fordorganic in Notting Hill is the best! It's really lovely during the day. Good luck!

Will P   Got to say Im not sure about this one. It looks like you are trying far too hard to impress her. Then again - it depends on what you mean by 'impress'. Take her to Shunt Vaults or Proud Galleries (not on a fri or sat) for something different. Have been on dates to both and they both went really well (my date loved them).

Take her to the Tiroler Hut, drink giant steins of beer and watch a very old Austrian man playing Eidelweiss on the cowbells. Then sing beer drinking songs and do the polka together.

All of my girlfriends agreed that we would have married any man who took us there on our first date.

I took someone to Tiroler Hut for a date just in case I got bored. Oh my god. It needs to be the right kind of girl (she liked it, thankfully) - some of my other friends said they would have disowned me!

You definitely won't be bored though.

Cocktails in the Oxo Tower, followed by a champagne flight on the London Eye at sunset was a pretty special date for me. Very Romantic indeed.

Finish a nice walk along Embankment by watching some Shakespeare plays at The Globe! Better during spring/summer though.

You are all right about the romantic walks and getting to know each other part.

However, I still feel that to get the true measure of a girl, you must see how they react to a tone-deaf Japanese man screaming "opera" music down their ear while an old man in tight, leather shorts hands them a large sausage and a shot of schnapps.

One's views on these matters can say a lot about your compatibility!

As for walks, there a lovely one from Tower Bridge to Westminster Bridge along the south bank. A lot of sights, sounds, colours and people. As you walk pass Big Ben, you will see a white tree at the base. I used to call this the white tree of London. A bit like LOTR one, I know very sad! Still it's pretty.

Little Bay in Kilburn is really nice for places to eat.

I always think The Oak (Westbourne Park Road) is fabulous for a first date.

Tapas and drinks upstairs and dinner downstairs if it gets that far!

Very ambient, with good food and good lighting. Also - it's not too pricey!

Perfect.

Take her to Gordon's Wine Bar at Charing Cross.

It's in a vaulted cellar below where Samuel Pepys lived. Very romantic. Very busy on Friday/Saturday night though.

If you really want to get the wow factor, and your girl is outgoing, you could do something zany, like giving her a zorb voucher and asking her for the day out? It'll be obvious that you put lots of thought into it.

Camden Market is also great - lots to talk about so no awkward silences and food stalls everywhere. Also, there is a gorgeous restaurant/pub called gilgamesh near the stables market where you can get a cocktail if all goes well.

I suggest you go for a fish and chip supper in Masters Super Fish in Waterloo (best fish and chips in london, all the taxi drivers go there..and you get a free prawn starter!)

Then to the Old Vic for drinks after.

Some brilliant suggestions! I got taken on a date to Moro in Exmouth Market which was fantastic - a really brilliant restaurant and then finish the night of with a match of table football at cafe Kick! Great combo...

The Purple Bar @ The Sanderson Hotel is a set in electro-goth surroundings. If you fancy a drink with your lady then this is the place for it... For a review of The Purple Bar check out: http://bit.ly/9qOFGE

The Big Chill House is great for a date, but not so much in the evenings as it gets crazy busy, but in the afternoons it's fairly perfect. Lots of comfy chairs and sofas, also has good food and good cocktails.
